50 Cent Confirms That His Album Will Be Out In July, Compares Floyd Mayweather To Muhammad Ali

50 Cent sticking with a July release date for his new album, says Mayweather is "the Ali of our generation."

For quite some time the fate of 50 Cent’s fifth studio album seemed a bit unclear due to his issues with his label, Interscope Records. But while being interviewed by various reporters at the Floyd Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, he revealed that his fifth studio album will in fact be released July of this year.
“Of course man,” said 50 Cent when asked if he’s working on any new music. “I’m actually working on the music. New album will be out July.”
While 50 Cent did reveal the July 2 release date for his album via Twitter, this is the first time he’s spoken publicly on the album’s release date.
Since he was in fact being interviewed at Mayweather’s Boxing Club, 50 Cent was asked several questions about boxing and even spoke on taking part in the sport as a youth. He also referred to Mayweather as being “the Ali of our time” when asked if the boxer is greater than boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
“I’ve been watching boxing for a long time. I’ve been a huge fan of it,” 50 Cent explained in a video posted on HipHop-n-More.com. “I started boxing when I was 12-years-old. I didn’t get a chance to go as far as my friend [Floyd Mayweather] did. I get a chance to live vicariously through him …I think he is equivalent to Ali. He’s the Ali of our time, our generation.”
No other details on 50 Cent’s fifth studio album have been revealed.

50 Cent Lays Claim To Young Buck's Recordings

50 Cent seeks to halt Young Buck's asset liquidation until it is determined what can and cannot be sold.

50 Cent is laying claim to Young Buck's recordings and threatening to sell the assets in his bankruptcy.
According to WSJ, 50 Cent and G-Unit's attorneys indicate that a recent motion to sell Young Buck's intellectual property doesn't disclose the specific assets. Now, Fif is asking a bankruptcy judge to block the sale until it is determined what he can and cannot sell.
“The creditors are left with no choice but to file this opposition to ensure that the trustee is not seeking to adversely affect the creditors’ rights in assets that they own, or in which they have rights and interests,” wrote 50's attorneys in papers filed last week.
50 claims that his label owns 100 percent of Buck's recording rights and has the exclusive right "to distribute, reproduce, and authorize adaptations and all performances in whatever form." He also states that he owns the rights to everything from Buck's professional name to his likeness, and can administer and publish his songs.
The issue will go before a bankruptcy judge next month in Nashville, Tennessee.

Wiz Khalifa Given Citation For Marijuana Possession

Wiz Khalifa was busted for weed at a Holiday Inn in Nashville, Tennessee.

Wiz Khalifa was given a marijuana citation at his hotel room in the Holiday Inn in Nashville, Tennessee.
According to TMZ, a fellow guest at the hotel complained about the smell of marijuana, resulting in a call to police. Upon their arrival, Wiz tossed a small bag of pot in hopes of concealing it from the cops, who retrieved the item.
Wiz was given a citation for the incident, though no arrests were made.
In November 2010, he was arrested for trafficking marijuana following a performance at East Carolina University. A year later, the charges were dropped against Wiz because police were in error at the time of arrest.

Judge Rules Lyrics Can Be Used In Lil Boosie Murder Trial

A judge has ruled that lyrics from one of Lil Boosie's songs can be used as evidence against him in his murder trial.

It looks like Lil Boosie's ongoing trial for first-degree murder trial is going to get worse before it gets any better. A judge has ruled that specific lyrics from one of the Baton Rouge rapper's songs are admissible as evidence in his trial.
According to a recent report from NBC 33 TV, Judge Mike Erwin ruled during a pre-trial hearing this past Tuesday that three specific lyrics from one of Boosie's songs can be used by the prosecution to show personal intent in the murder case. Interrogating officer of the Baton Rouge police Alvin Howard says that the specific lines “187,” “murk,” and “cake” are references to Boosie allegedly hiring a hitman to murder Terry Boyd in 2009.
The ruling has not come without some resistance from the defense. Boosie's lawyers argue that not only is Officer Howard not an expert witness in rap slang, but that the prosecution may have altered the lyrics of the track in question and thus should not play the song in court. Judge Erwin sustained both of the defense's objections, but allowed the specific lyrics in question to be entered into evidence.
The name of the song in question has yet to be revealed to the general public. If found guilty, Lil Boosie faces a life sentence in prison.

Lil Wayne Scraps "I Can't Feel My Face" Album With Juelz Santana

It looks like Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana's long-awaited project is no more, as Wayne has turned it into his next solo project.

Fans still eagerly awaiting Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana's fabled I Can't Feel My Face album, don't hold your breath. Weezy confirmed that for now, the project has been scrapped.

In a recent interview with MTV, Wayne said that he has moved on from the long awaited project and will be reusing much of the music originally recorded for the LP on his upcoming I Am Not a Human Being II. He explained that while his recent prison sentence definitely put a damper on the initial release time for the LP, it was Santana's own legal issues last year that prevented the duo from finishing it.
"I actually got at [Jue]lz when I got out [of jail] and told him, 'Man, I think it's time we really capitalize on that,'" he explained. "[Now], he can't work how he wants to work because they shut down his studio. I sent him some music and he didn't send them back in the time-fashion that I work. I started putting extra verses on those songs and I've moved on. Now what probably would've been I Can't Feel My Face, has now turned into I Am Not Human 2!

Waka Flocka Flame Addresses Beef With Wiz Khalifa

Waka Flocka Flame gives a somewhat conflicted explanation of his beef with Wiz Khalifa to Angie Martinez.

In December 2011, Waka Flocka Flame called out Wiz Khalifa for having "no swag" and "hyp[ing his] way to the top." Snoop Dogg briefly spoke on matter, but Wiz Khalifa did not address the matter.
In an interview with Angie Martinez on Hot 97, Waka addressed the matter. "It's deaded," he said of the beef. "I ain't bothering nobody. I don't know what's goin' on."
Martinez pushed the issue, saying that she felt Waka Flocka and Khalifa could potentially collaborate. "Negative," replied Waka. "Negative. That's like me...rapping about cookies and creams and lollipops. What you gon' call me? Nice guy or a sucka? I got this album about to drop [June] twelfth."
"That's a nice guy. ...I got cousins who like his music. That's it. We're two nice guys with good music."
"I want my fans to support that man one hundred percent," added Waka. "I don't wish any bad on him or nothin'. It is what it is."

Former Jay-Z Business Partner Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges

Kareem “Biggs” Burke, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, will be sentenced on May 18 and faces five to 40 years in prison
Kareem “Biggs” Burke, former business partner of Jay-Z and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, has pled guilty to drug charges, reports NorthJersey.com.
Burke, who was allegedly part of a massive pot trafficking ring, spoke before U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain in Manhattan on Thursday (March 16) and pled guilty to a single count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with the intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana.
As a result of the plea, the 38-year-old rap mogul, who helped launched the career of Jay-Z, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 40 years in prison when he returns to court on May 18. Under his plea agreement, Burke is also required to forfeit $660,000, his residence, $15,000 in cash that was seized from his home when he was arrested last year, and his 2010 BMW.
Burke was one of more than 50 people arrested in late 2010 for their connection to a marijuana trafficking ring that distributed drugs from South Florida to New York. The 18-month investigation, dubbed “Operation Green Venom,” was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from police agencies in New Jersey, New York, Florida, Maryland and North Carolina.
Authorities seized nearly $2 million and more than 260 pounds of marijuana during the bust. A raid on Burke’s residence in New Jersey reportedly produced the remains of a marijuana growing operation and $15,000 in cash.
Burke started Roc-A-Fella Records with Jay-Z and Damon Dash in the 1990s. The trio parted ways in 2004

The Top 10 Most Popular Hip Hop Singles The Week Of 3/12/2012

The Top 10 Most Popular Hip Hop Singles The Week Of 3/12/2012
An MMG posse cut takes the crown, while Nas and Machine Gun Kelly jump in, plus Can'Ron, Obie Trice, and more.
There is no doubt about it; a lot of well-rounded singles dropped this week. It was a playground for the new jacks, veterans, and indie kings. However, it's also indicative of the fast turnaround for top singles. Take last week for example. Snoop Dogg sat at the top of the hill with his "Stoner's Anthem," Joell Ortiz came in second with "The Motto Freestyle," and J.Cole had "Visionz Of Home." While people like J.Cole, Wiz Khalifa, and Tyga still showed up for the party this week, there are many new faces. It's amazing what a difference a week makes.

Rick Ross Gets Another Round, Nas Is The Don, Both Play Doubles

Rick Ross was the winner this week with his MMG cut "Another Round Rmx." He's joined by Wale and Stalley, and the cut skyrocketed to the top of the list. So that hit at #1. Second place? Nas' "The Don." The Heavy D, Salaam Remi, and Da Internz-produced track leaked toward the end of the week, and within hours became one of the top tracks on the site. Both Rawse and Nas showed up as cameos too. At #6, Rick Ross jumps on Wiz Khalifa's "Never Been Part II" featuring Wiz's fiance Amber Rose. Did the track make the list because of Wiz, Rozay, or Rose? You decide. As for Nas, he's been quite the fixture on the list thanks to the Tyga track "Kings & Queens." Wale was on that one too and it shows up at #9 on the list. J.Cole closed the list out at #10 with "Grew Up Fast." While "Visionz Of Home" leaked after this track, the fans have spoken and they know which they liked best.

Machine Gun Kelly Has Alot of Friends, Cam'Ron Has a Message

There's no doubt about it. Machine Gun Kelly is a wild boy. He's so wild that he enlisted six friends for the remix to "Wild Boy" which hit the #3 spot this week. MGK brought out Steve-O, 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, Mystikal, French Montana, and Yo Gotti. That's alot of people. The Bad Boy young gun can stand on his own two when it comes to tracks, but it's always good to have some strong back up. Meanwhile, Cam'Ron has quite the profane message: "F**k You." While Cam gears for another round of Killa Season, this new track came out for Killa Cam fans. That one reached #5. In between was a Statik Selektah-produced snippet from Obie Trice. While Trice just dropped Watch the Chrome, the probable cause of such a successful snippet as "Richard" was the cameo from Eminem. Wait until this track surfaces in its entirety.

Cash Money Records Sued For Not Paying Royalties

Cash Money Records is under fire for shady business dealings. Again.
Cash Money records is, once again, under fire for not paying royalties.
According to Courthouse News Service via Soul Culture, music giant EMI is suing Cash Money because the label simply ceased quarterly royalty payments they had agreed to make as part of a 2009 settlement between the parties.
Cash Money allegedly owes $491,000 in royalties for samples from EMI's catalog.
“Because Defendant has ignored numerous communications from EMI regarding Defendant’s contractual obligations, EMI once more is being forced to commence a lawsuit against Defendant to recover royalty payments,” the complaint states. “The sales of Defendant’s products have far exceeded the payments that EMI has received.”
“It is clear from Defendant’s conduct that it has no intention of honoring the Agreement,” the complaint continues
“Because Defendant has ignored numerous communications from EMI regarding Defendant’s contractual obligations, EMI once more is being forced to commence a lawsuit against Defendant to recover royalty payments,” states the complaint. “The sales of Defendant’s products have far exceeded the payments that EMI has received.”
“It is clear from Defendant’s conduct that it has no intention of honoring the Agreement.”
The turn of events is somewhat less than shocking, as the house that Slim and Birdman built has been a near-constant target for lawsuits over the past several years. Plaintiffs in previous cases have included Bangladesh, producer T-Mix, Done Deal Enterprises, producer David Kirkwood, Bridgeport Music, "Lollipop" producer Deezle, and many, many more. Also of note are high-profile controversies with Mannie Fresh and Wendy Day over money.

Lil Wayne Cited For Not Maintaining His Louisiana Mansion, On Sale For $1.7 Million

The Code Enforcement Department of Kenner, Louisiana, has cited Lil Wayne for not taking taking care of his yard work.
Lil Wayne has been cited for high grass and weeds at his 10,000 square-foot mansion by the Code Enforcement Department of Kenner, Louisiana.
According to nola.com, the rapper's mansion, which has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and two half baths, is on sale for $1.7 million.
"It's an immaculate property," said listing agent Lincoy Moliere. "It's in great condition. It's going to make somebody very happy."
This isn't Wayne's first code violation. In 2007 and 2008, the city put liens totalling $3,635 against his property for previous citations for "grass, weeds, litter and stagnant pool."

Lil' Kim Calls Nicki Minaj A "Stupid Hoe," "Fire Marshall Bill" & Overrated

Lil' Kim shares her take on Nicki Minaj's "Stupid Hoe" single, compares her to "In Living Color's" Fire Marshall Bill and says she is the most overrated artist today.

Recently, Lil' Kim added fuel to her feud with Nicki Minaj while on Bravo TV's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. During a show segment called "Plead the Fifth," where the guest can only plead the fifth once, the Queen Bee sent a few more shots towards Minaj.
Lil' Kim first referred to Minaj as "Fire Marshall Bill," the Jim Carrey character on In Living Color, a shot at Nicki's exaggerated facial expressions and voice in some songs and videos. She mentioned this by answering a question that was posed about who she felt was the most overrated artist of today.
Another guest on the show, MSNBC's Willie Geist, also chimed in with a question. He asked how Kim felt about Minaj's Grammy performance. To this, she responded by pretending not to know who he was speaking about. However, she eventually acknowledged her feelings towards Minaj.
"I'm pretty sure I feel the way the same way everybody else feels right about now," she said with a smile. "If you have to make a song called 'Stupid Hoe,' you must be the stupid hoe."

Common Says Beef With Drake is Over

Before the Grammy’s, Common squashes beef with Drake…

Drake said it in late January and Common is now following suit. Their beef is over.
Common made that clear in a pre-Grammy interview with Fuse TV’s TourĂ© on Sunday night (Feb. 12).
“It was all in the art of hip-hop,” Common commented about the feud. “It’s kind of over now. It’s over, but it’s all in the art of hip-hop. He said some things to me, so I had to say some things back.”
TourĂ© fired back, “So, he started it?”
“I wouldn’t say started it, I don’t know, but I heard something that was said that I felt like it was directed to me, so I addressed it,” Common added. “That’s all. But, I mean, thank God we were able to move forward from it and all is good.”
TourĂ© went on to bring up Common’s legendary battle with Ice Cube back in 1996 that led to the Chi-town lyricist delivering the scathing, “The Bitch in Yoo,” before prodding and asking why he aimed anything at Drake, whom he labeled an R&B singer.
“We all MCs and no matter what your age or where you from, when you step in the ring…and if you’re playing against me and you’re challenging me at any point, I’m an MC,” Common responded. “I like MC’ing, I love it, so that’s what I go for.”
Common waving the white flag comes three weeks after Drake he wouldn’t respond to Com’s “Stay Schemin (Remix)” in an interview with Nahright.com.
“Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a ‘hip-hop moment’ or a ‘battle for the sake of musical integrity’… it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album,” Drake told the hip-hop website three weeks ago. “More than anything, it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story.”
The beef began back in November, when Common dropped “Sweet” and fired a couple of lines at Drake. Drizzy followed with several bars aimed back at Com on Rick’s Ross’ “Stay Schemin,’” including the sharp line, “It bothers me when the Gods get to acting like broads.”
Upon hearing that, Common jumped on the same song and dedicated an entire verse to Drake

Jay-Z Skips Grammys to Take Beyoncé on Pizza Date in Brooklyn

Jay-Z and wife BeyoncĂ© chose a date at a Brooklyn pizzeria over attending the 54th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles…

Jay-Z was a no-show at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday night (Feb. 12). That’s because he was taking his wife BeyoncĂ© on a pizza date in Brooklyn.
Although Jay-Z and Kanye West won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance for “Otis” off their Watch the Throne album, and Bey was nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, both were nowhere to be seen at the Staples Center. Although it’s still unclear where Kanye was, Jigga was on a pre-Valentine’s Day with his wife at their favorite pizzeria, Lucali, in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn, all according to US Weekly.
A witness told the celebrity-based magazine that the new parents “were just like a regular couple talking” and that Bey said goodbye to the restaurant’s owner and waitress. Grammy presenters Fergie and Marc Anthony accepted the Grammy on ’Ye and Hov’s behalf on Sunday night.
This was two days removed from the power couple surprisingly posting the first-ever pics of their newborn daughter Blue Ivy on a brand new Tumblr site.
In related news, the Throne was recently applauded by the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy group for slapping an advisory warning on their colorful, almost psychedelic video for “Niggas in Paris.”
The video’s warning reads, “This video has been identified by epilepsy action to potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.”

Drake Says More Videos Off His Take Care Album Are on The Way

Drake tells MTV News that fans should expect more videos to be shot off his Take Care album, starting with the title track, featuring Rihanna…

Drake wants to let his fans know that they can expect more videos to be shot off his Take Care album.
“Yes, there is definitely plans for a few videos actually,” Drizzy recently told MTV News. “It’s a project where visuals are called for, for a lot of those records.”
Drake says the next video up will be the title track, “Take Care,” featuring Rihanna. The Canadian MC shot the video during the Super Bowl weekend earlier this month.
“They seemed to be super close and that’s what I wanted for the video,” the video’s director Yoann Lemoine told MTV News about Drake and Rihanna’s chemistry on set. “They fit together pretty well, so it was just easy.”
Having already shot visuals for “Headlines” and “Marvins Room,” Drake created a stir a few weeks back when an unofficial version of his “Practice” video hit the net, featuring the curvaceous video model Kyra Chaos gyrating, until Drizzy himself makes a cameo in the waning seconds of the clip.
Most recently, a suited-up Drake was seen as a presenter at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. There, he presented the highly-talked about and controversial performance of his fellow Young Money member Nicki Minaj.

Rick Ross Confirms Working With Dr. Dre For "Detox" & "God Forgives, I Don't"

After photos surfaced of the pair in the studio, Ricky Rozay says that they're working on each other's projects.

Rick Ross recently tweeted a picture of him with Dr. Dre and DJ Khaled in the studio, though it was unclear whether or not the two were working on anything in particular. At last night's Grammy Awards, Ricky Rozay confirmed that the pair were collaborating for both Detox and God Forgives, I Don't, though he remained vague about the songs themselves.
"That's mandatory, my brother," he told MTV News' Sway Calloway on the red carpet when asked if the two were working on God Forgives, I Don't. Calloway followed by asking if they also worked together for Dre's Detox, to which the MMG boss gave the same response. "That's mandatory, my brother," he echoed.
"We making some things happen, man — we just gonna see where the pieces fall," he continued. "But we most definitely putting in major work."

Wiz Khalifa Says "Rolling Papers" "Creatively Wasn't My Best Work"

The Taylor Gang leader promises not to cater to mainstream tastes with his upcoming mixtape and sophomore album.

In anticipation of his upcoming sophomore album O.N.I.F.C., Wiz Khalifa took to his Tumblr page to reflect on his debut Rolling Papers, admitting that it wasn't his best creative work and that he feels much more confident about its follow up. In the post, he recalls how Kush & Orange Juice took his sound to new heights, but that he abandoned that for his major label debut.
"I haven’t been this excited about any of my projects ever. I remember when i made kush and orange juice, I listened to it and knew I had created a new genre that wld change music," he wrote. "The mistake i made on Rolling Papers was thinking it was time to move on from that genre not knowing that it had impacted people so much. The album did great numbers, but creatively wasn’t my best work. No regrets though. We live and we learn."
Wiz assures that his upcoming mixtape Taylor Allderdice and sophomore album O.N.I.F.C. will reel back in his sound. He asserts that he's not trying to crack the charts or cater to mainstream tastes, but rather for "people who live like us and can relate."
"So for my fans sake and own personal enjoyment, Ive gone further into the world we’ve created and elaborated on our genre with the mixtape Taylor Allderdice and of course my sophomore album ONIFC. Im so confident in the artistry and creativity of these projects because so much living went along with them. These aren’t songs aimed to be hits or widely accepted or even understood. Iss for people who live like us and can relate. And informative to those who can’t. Either way we’re inviting mu fuggas deep into our world and I can’t wait. I got new visuals, a new clothing line, and the new show is gonna be amazing. This is for us. Taylor Gang Or Die."

Nicki Minaj Explains Grammy Performance Of "Roman Holiday," Responds To Criticism

Calling her performance "creative craziness," Nicki Minaj explains her "vision" for the show before promising a more upbeat single will follow.

After debuting her new single "Roman Holiday" this weekend, Nicki Minaj discussed her Grammy performance, her next move as an artist and more. During a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, the Harajuku Barbie shared that the controversial Religion-themed performance was her "creative craziness" and promised her next single will make people dance.
While she has faced criticism for the Grammy show, the YMCMB star noted that it was her vision coming to life on stage.
“I had this vision for [the Roman character] to be sort of exorcised—or actually he never gets exorcised—but people around him tell him he’s not good enough because he’s not normal, he’s not blending in with the average Joe. And so his mother is scared and the people around him are afraid because they’ve never seen anything like him. He wanted to show that not only is he amazing and he’s sure of himself and confident, but he’s never gonna change, he’s never gonna be exorcised. Even when they throw the holy water on him, he still rises above.”

After explaining the plot, she also answered some who asked why she chose to perform "Roman Holiday." Minaj then explained that it was not her decision.
“The Grammys chose ‘Roman Holiday.’ The producers of the Grammys came to the studio and I played them ‘Roman Holiday,’ and I could not play them another record after they heard that. They went crazy. I could have chosen to do a no-brainer pop song, but I can’t do it anymore. I have to stay true to what I’m doing.”

Nevertheless, Nicki said that it is only "one facet" of her brand and then said her next single would have people dancing.
“‘Starships’ is one of my absolute, absolute favorite records on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. It just sounds like a Ryan Seacrest-type of record. And I’m so excited for you to give this song your blessing, Ryan, because I know people are gonna love it. It feels right. It just feels good. It makes people feel happy and that’s all I want. I want to start the year off with making people feel good. The [Grammy] performance was the performance, that was my creative craziness, and now it’s time to make people dance and have fun, and that’s all I want to do.”
Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is scheduled to drop in early April. Earlier this morning, she debuted its latest offering "Starships."

Mannie Fresh Discusses Possibly Signing To G.O.O.D. Music, Reveals Kanye West's Cash Money Past And His Current Relationship With Mystikal

One of the South's original sonic architects says he is "proud" of Big K.R.I.T., confused by Cash Money's newest signee, thankful to Kanye and humbled by Dr. Dre.

For a guy who has helped sell over 20 million records, Mannie Fresh is remarkably humble. With his lengthy and impressive resume, it is hard to believe that the former sonic supplier to Cash Money Records can still genuinely show gratitude to the current throne-occupying producer/rapper that at one time could have conceivably become his successor as CMR’s head trackmaster and literally get geeked at the mere mention of the name Dr. Dre.

But in his latest eye-popping conversation with 1Million Hustlas Strong, one of the South’s first certified hitmakers did just that. In addition to heaping praise on fresh talent like fellow New Orleans native Dee-1 and Mississippi’s hottest new export, Mannie spoke admiringly of the Midwest megastar he once unselfishly shared his tools of the trade with (and who might soon become his labelmate) as well as the West Coast legend who recently sought out the Bounce music pioneer to talk shop with.

The sincere star in his own right concluded his discussion with 1MHS by speaking in a surprisingly gracious manner about the admittedly surprising turn his working relationship with another N.O. notable just took, and revealed whether or not that partnership can ever be salvaged.

: Since Big K.R.I.T. leaked the first joint from his upcoming 4evaNaDay mixtape today (February 2nd), that “Boobie Miles” joint, I wanted to commemorate the start of what will probably be a third straight all-star season for K.R.I.T. by getting one of his Southern forefather’s thoughts on the Meridian, Mississippi producer/rapper.
Mannie Fresh: I really think [Big K.R.I.T. is] that dude. ‘Cause he’s doing different things and branching out. I personally never really kicked it with him, but I’m proud of what the dude is doing. He’s one of those kids who I definitely wanna work with in the future. He’s more than just a Rap song.

1MHS: Another one of your production descendants, Kane Beatz, cited you as one of his inspirations in his recent HipHopDX interview. Do you feel like Andre 3000 when you hear all this praise from the younger generation though: “Kiddo say he looks up to me, this just makes me feel old.” [Laughs]

Mannie Fresh: Well, I mean, I did the same thing. I had idols and stuff, the people that I looked up to. So I’m just glad that there’s kids that where it counts acknowledge me. Because, sometimes you can feel like, “Hey dude, y’all just took that and ran with it. Nobody ain’t say a ‘Thank you’ for it yet.” So when it counts, I’m glad it happens like that. To me, that’s success. It ain’t about the money or whatever you measure it on, it’s just for somebody else to say “My whole thing, what I grew up on, was Mannie Fresh. That’s my dude.”
1MHS: Another producer you inspired that I didn’t even know you had inspired until recently is the guy who can be heard calling you “the best producer” during Episode 6 of the behind the scenes of the Watch The Throne Tour. What did you think when Kanye West bestowed you with that crown?
Mannie Fresh: Like I said, for the right people to acknowledge you, you know you done something. It ain’t about your numbers; it ain’t about none of that. Somebody like Kanye West, [who’s] on top of his game right now, to acknowledge you, to give you that love like, “Yeah, I think dude is that dude,” I can’t tell you what that means.
1MHS: What’d you think when you saw your billing on screen in that video as “Mannie Fresh Legendary Producer”?

Mannie Fresh: I wasn’t expecting dude to do that. It wasn’t no gimmicks or nothing like that behind that. So that’s one of them things where you kinda pat yourself on the back and be like, “Damn dude, you are that dude.” [Laughs]
1MHS: [Laughs] A little history question here: Is it true that Kanye tried to get on with Cash Money before he got down with Roc-A-Fella?
Mannie Fresh: Yeah, he did. And that’s how far we go back. It’s a blessing when you are good people. When Kanye first came around, I let him use my equipment. I didn’t know him from a can of paint. I just thought he was a talented dude. And I was like, “Here dude, you can use my MPC, my keyboards, whatever you need to do.” And that came back around by him reaching out right now.

He told me one of his stories [from when he was at Cash Money Records], he was like, “I called back home and I was like, ‘Dude, I’m using Mannie Fresh’s equipment, y’all a never believe this.’” So it’s like I said, you never know who is gonna be that guy.
1MHS: Do you remember what happened there, why that didn’t work out …?

Mannie Fresh: It was more of like Kanye knew back then what he wanted, the situation that he was looking for and all of that. The dude, Mikkey [Halsted], stayed. Mikkey [ended up] signed to Cash Money, but both of them came together. Kanye came as Mikkey’s producer and they was trying to sign together.
I remember Kanye playing some songs, some of the songs which are now classic songs that was on Jay-Z’s [The Blueprint] album. And I was like, “This dude has something. What he’s doing right now, that’s gonna be something.” And, I don’t think Cash Money's [founders] – [Birdman] and Ronald didn’t hear that. I’m like, “Dude, this something new, this something different.”
1MHS: I’m surprised to hear you say that. I woulda thought that you woulda just been like, “This is my house. Get outta here young’n.”
Mannie Fresh: Nah, dude. I’ve always been somebody who embraced new dudes, because that’s the future. I feel like this: I still got a lot in me, but when Mannie Fresh was at his peak, Mannie Fresh ruled. [And] nobody can take that from me. So I felt like when it was my time – not that it’s done yet – I did my thing. That’s all that counts to me.
1MHS: Going back to that [tour] clip, you’re seen in there giving a nice little motivational speech to the G.O.O.D. Music fam. So does this mean you’re officially G.O.O.D. Music in-house yourself now?
Mannie Fresh: Well, we working that out. I’m kind of funny about signing with people. Dude, I’ve been through so much. And I’m not saying I think Kanye is a bad person, but I can’t tell you what that is right now. It’s really on me, and what space I’m in. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t do it, but it’s gotta be something that makes sense for me.
1MHS: Was any sort of formal offer put forward, or any extending of the hand saying “If you want to, come on”?
Mannie Fresh: I can’t really say if [there was]. It’s one of them things where – Let me just put it like this, Kanye is kinda mysterious about the things that he do. And I can’t really let no cats out the bag. I’m sorry to give you an answer like that, but I can’t really say what’s in the works. Y’all just gotta wait to see what happens.
1MHS: That’s cool. I gotta ask the next question though: Can you tell the readers of HipHopDX what you were doing in that pic that surfaced a few weeks back of you and Pusha T working together?
Mannie Fresh: Oh yeah, we in the studio, definitely working. That’s what I do; I’m a producer. But, I just think that – Like I said, y’all just gotta hold on and wait. I’m in somebody else’s house right now, so I gotta go by they rules. I think it would be kinda disrespectful if I went against what was asked of me.
1MHS: Another producer, a fellow legend actually, I do need to ask you about – and I hope you can be a little more revealing with – is Dr. Dre. When did you work with the good doctor?
Mannie Fresh: Actually, it was the same week that I was out there with Kanye. [Dr.] Dre’s dude found out I was out there, and they came and found me and brought me over to his crib. And we chatted, and the next thing you know, we in the studio.
I am a fan of Dr. Dre. I grew up on N.W.A. That [meeting] meant way more than doing music. Like, you get to sit down with one of your idols, one of your heroes, like, “Damn, this is Dr. Dre!”
1MHS: Did you like play him tracks, or did you guys actually build something together?
Mannie Fresh: I played him some tracks. The crazy thing about this is I’m still in love with Hip Hop to the point that I don’t even know that these people know me. So to know that Dr. Dre knows Mannie Fresh, that’s crazy to me. I’m like, “This dude really knows me! He knows songs that I’ve done.” So, to me, that’s like, “Damn dude, you are successful.” Like I said, it ain’t about the money.
It was like my first time meeting Grandmaster Flash. I ain’t know what to say. I wanted to say like, “Damn dude, you a legend,” but I didn’t wanna sound like I’m a groupie and I’m all on him. But when it really comes down to it, I am a fan.
1MHS: Now, switching gears here to the subject you know we had to touch upon in this interview … Did Mystikal give you any kind of a heads-up that he was gonna sign to Cash Money?
Mannie Fresh: Nah, dude. But, to each his own. As a man I gotta respect his moves. If he thought that was good for him, so be it. I’m not upset about it or nothing like that. And on top of that, look at Mannie, look at where Mannie’s moving at [now]. He’s doing his thing, I’m doing my thing. But to answer your question, nah, I didn’t see that one coming.
1MHS: Yeah, I didn’t see it coming either ‘cause I’m old enough to remember [U.N.L.V.’s] “Drag Em N Tha River.” [Laughs]
Mannie Fresh: I didn’t see that one coming at all. But, at the end of the day, he gotta take care of his family. So I’m not mad at him. If that’s the best move for him, and he feels like that’s what he needs to do, so be it.
1MHS: Your rep contacted DX in December and said that you’re still gonna keep working with Mystikal. Is that still the plan as of today?
Mannie Fresh: That’s the plan, but I gotta leave it on him. Like I said, I really don’t care who he’s signed to, as long as my business is taken care of right. And, that’s the deal with Cash Money. It’s no hard feelings. Let’s just take care of business right, that’s it.
1MHS: Just out of curiosity, have you spoken to Baby since Mystikal signed?
Mannie Fresh: Nah, I haven’t.
1MHS: Last time we spoke, you told me work with Mystikal had stalled ‘cause he was focusing on doing shows. Has the status of that situation changed at all since October? Have you guys gotten back in the studio?
Mannie Fresh: Nah, I haven’t seen him since he did his deal. I’m just being honest with you, I haven’t seen him, haven’t talked to him.
1MHS: Do you know if he peeped that interview – if he was offended by some of the straight talk you were giving?
Mannie Fresh: I mean, I don’t think I said nothing wrong. I just told the truth on it. And I’m not mad at him for doing what he doing, but when I take on something I’m serious about it. And, part of it was this too: like, I had to go and find what I’m doing. I was really concentrating on more of Mystikal’s business than Mannie’s business. And I had to go do Mannie’s business, just like he had to go do his business.
1MHS: Speaking of the business, just out of curiosity, were you guys planning to just put his stuff out independent before he signed to CMR?
Mannie Fresh: Yeah, that was my thoughts on it. I was just like, “Hey, let’s go back to the way we started. Let’s hustle.” And on top of that, he still has a fan base. It’s ironic that Kanye’s label is called G.O.O.D. Music [because] that’s all it woulda took was good music. Do some good music and people are gonna pick it up.
1MHS: Yeah, if he had just waited you coulda got him signed to G.O.O.D. Music. [Chuckles]
Mannie Fresh: [Chuckles].
1MHS: So lastly, besides the G.O.O.D. Music stuff, what else do you got cooking on the stove that you can let the people know about?
Mannie Fresh: I’m just gonna make my way around to a whole bunch of artists. That’s what I’m in the process of doing. It was a bunch of people waiting for me that was like, “Hey dude, where you been at? What’s been going on wit’chu?” So now that I’m back in the swing of things – I gotta thank Kanye for [that praise he gave me]. When dudes say things like that to you, it restores your swag. And [reconnecting] with the dude, it was a blessing. I’m not gonna lie, he was a positive push in [me] going, “Mannie, what are you doing? Get it back together.” So on that note, I gotta thank Kanye West. He’s a brother from another mother [and] that was a push in a positive way to make me say “Yeah dude, I need to get back in this.”

Brooklyn Rapper Ra Diggs Charged, Indicted For Three Murders, Could Face Death Penalty

At one point, the aspiring emcee even bragged about one of the murders on Twitter.

Brooklyn, New York native Ra Diggs has been charged with three murders, including one that he bragged about on Twitter.
According to NYDN, the aspiring rapper was indicted today for the slayings, which are connected to his Gowanus Houses drug operation. The emcee, born Ronald Herron, could face the death penalty.
His charges extend to June 2001 for the murder of Frederick Brooks, which he originally beat after two witnesses refused to testify against him on account of his associates threatening them. In a later slaying, Herron bragged about the murder on Twitter, stating that he “beat a body.”
"His Tweets were premature," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said. Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch added, "Ronald Herron and his gang terrorized a Brooklyn community for more than a decade and he temporarily got away with murder by threatening and intimidating witnesses only to return to the streets of Brooklyn to kill and kill again.”

Ghostface Killah Weighs In On New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez

Ghostface Killah Weighs In On New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez
Toney Starks weighs in on the New York Jets QB, saying that Sanchez doesn't have the arm to keep up in the NFL.
Super Bowl XLVI may be over a week old now, but that isn't keeping the legendary Ghostface Killah from talking about this past football season. In a recent interview with The Score, the Wu-Tang Clan emcee weighed in on his favorite team the New York Jets and their rough 2011 season. Ghostdeini said that a lot of the problems the Jets experienced were a result of quarterback Mark Sanchez, who Ghost says simply doesn't have the arm to keep up with the elite QBs in the league.
"I love sports," Ghost explained. "Any real man is gonna love some type of sport…[I'm a fan of] the Jets...what I'm thinking [is that Mark Sanchez isn't the right QB]. I'm thinking that he's still young and I'm thinking that his arm is really not that strong like that. I don't see no missiles really like - he's got a couple of really nice touchdowns, but it's not really like [he's] the elite. You got [Drew] Brees [of the New Orleans Saints], you got Aaron [Rogers of the Green Bay Packers], I miss Peyton [Manning], but you've got guys like that that's just gunning it, and it's like …I don't know, [Sanchez] just kinda folds at the last minute."
Ghost also spoke on the sports he watched growing up. Although Pretty Toney did says that he was a fan of Tom Landry's Dallas Cowboys, his real sports passion was professional boxing. He recalled that it was the bouts between Muhammad Ali and the late Joe Fraizer that really made him love the sport.
"When I was young, as far as sports, [my] football [team was] the Dallas Cowboys with Danny White and them. I loved that [White used to punt], and I loved the coach [Tom] Landry," he recalled. "I loved that old man. He just had something about him that just, you always just wanted to look at him. Those memories, and you've got the boxing memories. I'm a boxing fan, too. Rest in peace to Joe Fraizer. He was a part of Muhammad Ali's legacy, too, because those fights right there was just the fights of the century. They were just going in and he helped make Muhammad Ali what Muhammad Ali is, too."

Lil Wayne Sends Shots At Jay-Z & Kanye West At Pre-Grammy Party

Lil Wayne Sends Shots At Jay-Z & Kanye West At Pre-Grammy Party
Lil Wayne continues doling out not-so-subtle shots at Jay-Z and Kanye West's group, The Throne.
It seems as though Lil Wayne still hasn't move on from Jay-Z's "Baby money" line from the Watch the Throne song "H.A.M. ," as he is still firing shots at Jay-Z and Kanye West.
At the Cash Money Pre-Grammy party, Lil Wayne tossed a few bars out for the crowd: "I met a bad red bone, I took the bitch home / I asked her what she want to watch, she said surely not The Throne."
Lil Wayne and Jay-Z have been sending thinly-veiled shots back and forth for years, but when Jay-Z's line on "H.A.M." suggested that Baby - Bryan "Birdman" Williams - exaggerated his wealth, Lil Wayne took particular umbrage to the line.
Even though Wayne previously responded on "It's Good ," Jay has yet to return fire, simply acknowledging that beef is part of the sport of Hip Hop.
During the event, Wayne also hinted at Christina Milian signing to Young Money.
He should let it go the boy Hov has no time for you Lil Guy, he gots so much other stuff to deal with!
