Hundred Of Teens Released After Massive Ski Trip Drug Bust
COSTA MESA (CBS) —Hundreds of California teens were released after a tour bus raid turned up shocking quantities of drugs, paraphernalia, and alcohol.
Costa Mesa-based Summer Winter Action Tours operates what is billed as the largest high school ski and snowboard trip in the nation. Earlier this week, hundreds of teens from across SoCal, Northern California, and Arizona boarded buses bound for Salt Lake City, Utah.
But their trip was delayed when police in Elko, Nevada conducted a raid after receiving a tip about possible drug use outside the buses.
“All these cops came and like surrounded all the buses so we couldn’t move,” said one teen from the Bay Area.
Elko police say they used drug sniffing dogs to search five buses. Officers asked the bus passengers to give up their contraband in return for being released without consequence.
A teen on board one of the buses reports that enough contraband was collected from backpacks and cargo areas to fill up four garbage bags.
Elko’s Chief of Police, Don Zumwalt, defends the agency’s decision to confiscate large amounts of drugs, paraphernalia, and alcohol while making no arrests.
“I told them the bottom line is this, I wanted them to go to Salt Lake City and be safe,” says Zumwalt.
He says officers could have impounded five buses and stranded 250 teenagers in Elko, but the kids were cooperating.
“We could have stopped everything, got search warrants, and searched every bag” says Zumwalt. “We would have still been writing search warrants a week later.”
The tour company released a statement saying that travelers and their parents are responsible for adhering to a zero tolerance behavior code.
The statement said, “It’s clear that the parents of the travelers who were in possession of contraband items failed to perform the first task asked of them; to check their students’ bags prior to boarding the bus.”
The company says all students on board the buses that were stopped hailed from Northern California.
Nearly 20 teens who allegedly had contraband were sent home after their parents were contacted.

203 Arrests in Major Drug Bust in Tempe, AZ
A major drug bust in Arizona has lead to 203 arrests. The investigation, called “Operation Crank Call,” involved undercover work over a 15-year period. Rick Folbaum reports that the target was an offshoot of the Sinaloa drug cartel, one of the most powerful drug trafficking organizations in the entire world.
Almost eight million dollars in cash was seized and over 1200 lbs of drugs were uncovered, including marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamines. Forty-four firearms were seized as well.
The state attorney general hopes the arrests will prompt federal officials to put more patrol units along the Arizona-Mexico border.

Lil Wayne Kicks & Pushes, Launches New Skateboarding Line
Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne is proving his love for skateboarding is real by launching a new clothing line gearted toward skaters next month.
While details are still emerging, the line, called Trukfit, will become unveiled in January.
Trukfit, the new clothing brand from Grammy Award winning, platinum selling hip hop icon LIL WAYNE, will debut at Agenda in January 2012. The highly anticipated line of uniquely designed apparel was inspired by Lil Wayne's passion for skateboarding and quality street wear. Controversial rapper Gucci Mane reportedly paid his respects to slain rapper Slim Dunkin yesterday (December 28) at his funeral in their Atlanta hometown.
Rapper Gucci Mane attended the lavish funeral for fellow Brick Squad Monopoly rapper Slim Dunkin on Wednesday in Atlanta and RumorFix has the exclusive details. The body of the 24-year-old rapper, who was reportedly murdered over a Jolly Rancher candy, was heralded with trumpets and carried by pallbearers wearing coat and tails with top hats. White flowers that spelled out the word "Squad" were laid on his casket during the services that featured several gospel songs. While Gucci paid his respects to the up and coming rapper, surprisingly Slim's buddy, Waka Flocka Flame, was nowhere in sight. Waka Flocka Flame and Gucci Mane are throwing down big $$$ to cover funeral expenses for a fellow Atlanta rapper -- who was brutally gunned down last week -- lavishing their fallen comrade with elaborate memorial arrangements. Rapper Slim Dunkin (center) -- real name Mario Hamilton -- was shot and killed Friday night inside an Atlanta recording studio ... after a verbal altercation with an unidentified man turned deadly. Now, a rep for Waka and Gucci tells TMZ, the rappers are pooling their assets to ensure Slim is laid to rest in the best way possible ... with an elaborate funeral that includes a white horse-drawn carriage, massive white floral arrangements, and a white dove release ceremony. We're told Slim's family will cover some funeral costs -- but Waka and Gucci are paying for the lion's share. The funeral is scheduled to take place Friday morning at 11am at Berean Christian Church in Atlanta.
Lil Boosie pleads guilty to drug charges, sentenced to 8 yrs
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Baton Rouge rapper Lil Boosie arrived at district court Tuesday morning for a pre-trial motion and ended up pleading guilty to drug charges.
Lil Boosie, whose real name is Torrence Hatch, pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiring to bring drugs into a penal institution. Judge Mike Erwin sentenced him to eight years in prison.
Investigators said he tried to smuggle drugs into Dixon Correctional Center once and into Angola State Penitentiary twice.
After the judge announced the sentencing, Lil Boosie requested drug rehab. Erwin said he would recommend it but could not order it.
Supporters for the rapper were seen hanging their heads low once the judge made that statement.
On another note, he walked into the courtroom wearing an expensive pair of Adidas tennis shoes, instead of prison-issued sneakers.
There were about 12 deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office surrounding Lil Boosie while he was in court.
Lil Boosie is also charged with first-degree murder in the death of Terry Boyd.
Prior to the plea, Erwin refused to remove District Attorney Hillar Moore from the case.
Erwin later said the search warrant on Lil Boosie's house stands. He then denied a second warrant suppression. The defense said it plans to appeal.
Erwin set the murder trial to begin April 30.
Lil Boosie's lawyers subpoenaed Michael Louding, also known as Marlo Mike, to testify on Lil Boosie's behalf after repeatedly trying to get Louding on the stand.
Louding's attorney, Margaret Lagatutta, said she will fight the subpoena.
Louding is accused of six separate murders.
Prosecutors said Louding told them he was hired as a hitman by Lil Boosie.
It is unclear if the death penalty is on the table.
